Beware of “Cash For Clunkers” scams

As of July 31, the initial $1 billion allocated to the “cash for clunkers” program had been nearly depleted and the House passed a bill to provide an additional $2 billion to the program. In the meantime, the program remains in limbo with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency that administers the program, unable to confirm or deny if the program is currently operating. However, White House spokesmen have assured consumers that the program continues to run and can still be used. Continue reading »

Small automaker Suzuki celebrates its centenary this October. Back in 1909, Michio Suzuki founded the Suzuki Loom Company in Hamamatsu, Southern Japan and it was while manufacturing looms for production of plain white fabric he learned that weavers wanted looms that could produce cloth with vertical and horizontal stripes. Report says giving up SUVs will power the poor

According to the World Bank’s yet-to-be-released World Development Report 2009, there are between 25 million to 40 million gas-guzzling SUVs in the United States today. The report says that if the entire U.S. were to shift to more fuel-efficient cars en masse, more than 1.6 billion people in the world currently living in the dark can be provided electrification without any increase in the levels of greenhouse gases that lead to climate change. 2009 International Engine of the Year awards

Volkswagen has secured overall honors at the 2009 International Engine of the Year Awards, winning the accolade for the first time in the company’s history with its diminutive yet powerful 1.4L TSI Twincharger engine. The unit is offered across much of the VW model range, including the Golf, Scirocco and Eos, and is used to good effect by Seat in the Ibiza Cupra. The turbocharged and supercharged 1.4L also won the 1L to 1.4L category and was voted Green Engine of the Year, beating both Toyota’s and Honda’s new electric-hybrid powerplants. Continue reading »

After the Kuwaitis have bought out Aston Martin and Abu Dhabi Emiratis have become large shareholders in Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari, Porsche is reportedly close to a deal that would see the Qatari government become a major shareholder to help Porsche pull itself out of debt that it so stupidly put itself in after trying to take over the Volkswagen Group.
