Top 10 cleanest gasoline and diesel cars

French car magazine, l’Automobile, believes that considering CO2 as the only pollutant to adapt legislation is unfair. Hence the magazine editors came up their own list that includes all pollutants coming from the exhaust pipe.
Each car was given a mark from 0 to 1,000 depending on CO2 emissions. Other pollutants were rated on other scales, based on three pollutants from gasoline engines, namely carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide, and an additional fourth one for diesels, namely particulates.
All cars available in the French market, 969 diesel and 1240 gasoline, were included in the list, although the Toyota Prius is ironically missing.
According to the list, the top 10 cleanest diesel cars are the Seat Ibiza 1.4 TDI manual, BMW 320d manual, MINI Cooper D manual, BMW 320d Touring manual, MINI Clubman Cooper D manual, BMW 318d manual, BMW 318d Touring manual, Audi A3 Sportback 1.9 TDI manual, MINI Cooper D automatic, and the BMW 320d Coupé-Cabriolet manual.
The magazine lists out the top 10 cleanest gasoline cars as the Honda Insight 1.3 IMA CVT, Toyota iQ 1.0 VVT-i manual, Daihatsu Cuore 1.0 manual, Suzuki Alto 1.0 automatic, Ford Ka 1.2 manual, Toyota iQ 1.0 VVT-i MultiDrive Multi5, Fiat Panda 1.1 Active ECO manual, Suzuki Alto 1.0 manual, Fiat 500 1.2 automatic, and the Honda Civic Hybrid 1.3 IMA CVT.
