Tesla Roadster and Lotus Elise recalls

Lotus and Tesla are both recalling their 2009 roadsters manufactured from January 14 through May 5, 2009. This was to be expected, considering the Tesla Roadster is based on the Lotus Elise. Lotus is recalling 27 Elise and Exige models, while Tesla is recalling all of their 345 Roadsters.
The rear hub flange bolts on some of these vehicles may be under-torqued and may become loose. If that occurs, an insecure hub could lead to degradation in vehicle handling, and a rubbing noise from the rear of the vehicle. If the problem is not addressed promptly, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash.
Lotus and Tesla will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during June of 2009. Owners may contact Lotus at 1-800-245-6887, or Tesla at 1-877-888-3752.
