Full 2009 Jaguar XF revelation

The 2009 Jaguar XF has been unveiled, as a replacement for the current S-Type. However, engines continue to be the same.

The new shape tries to stay true to the C-XF concept, although the front end suffers in the translation to production form. Not good, considering this is the car that is supposed to save Jaguar’s poor financial situation.

Engines for the American market includes a 4.2L V8 with 300 hp and 310 lb-ft, and a 420 hp supercharged 4.2L V8 with 408 lb-ft. There is also a V6 and a turbodiesel engine for the European market. All engines will be mated to Jaguar’s six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles. The 0-60 mph for an XF with the supercharged V8 will take an estimated 5.1 seconds, while the standard V8 car is at 6.2 seconds. Top speeds are limited to 250 kph.

The interior has all the usual electronics, but new to this rather dull cabin are these hide-away a/c vents, and a knob instead of a stick for selecting gears.

Shown below is the concept.

Ford you need to do something about your engine. Youv’e been using that same effing 4.2 V8 for atleast the alst 5yrs. and it’s outdated and outclassed by more than a few V8’s and even V6’s. The 4.2 V8 N/A only puts out 300hp and the supercharged version 420hp while at the sametime the new BMW M3 4.0 V8 puts out 415 and that’s N/A. The 4.2 V8 N/A only puts out 300hp and at the sametime how many V6’s out there easily match this power level and at times luxurty level. Ford the only thing that’s been saving your ass with the Jaguar is the fact that there are naive young/old people who want to be seen in a Jaguar. The new Jguar FX looks like a mix between the Lucerne and current model Acura TL not what’s expected from a luxury car that bares the name Jaguar. I do like the Acura TL it’s a great car probably more reliable than the Jag on all levels but if the Acura was the sameprice as the Jaguar FX I’d suspect it would be dosed with a great deal more luxury options and at the sametime Honda/Acura’s reliability. Ford your company is pretty much the father of American automotives and the sad thing is that it’s fallen like an Angel that made battle on Heaven. Time to redeem yourself.

First of all, as a 25 year old jaguar owner, I can tell that the author of the above opinion has never had one. That being said, I should specify that I own an ‘89, the last true jaguar before they were bought out by ford. While I love my Jaguar (not just being seen in it) I doubt that I would like any of the later xj8s, mostly because the interiors look too simiar to the plasticated Town Car. In fact, that is probably the biggest source of jaguar’s problems; the interiors on all of their cars across the board (except the new xk) look cheap. In the upgrade of the quality of design and execution of the xf interior, I would say that the new model is moving in the right direction. As far as the above opinion that the motor is the source of all of Jaguar’s problems, this is unfounded. Granted, its specifiations are not as impressive as many Mercdes or BMW motors, but the fact that jaguars (xj and xk at least) are now all aluminum certainly does something to counteract the lower power output of the motor as well as help with handling and ride. That being said, I think that the new design is out of sinc with jaguar illustrious traditions. Since the 30 ss cars, jaguar has had distinguishing design features that made them recognizable to even the most ignorant observer (these features included the grille, cat haunched rear quarters, stainless steal window frames, and extensive use of real wood veneers). I agree with the analogy of its design, but I thought that it looks like a Mazda Speed 6 mixed with a Lexus LS (although I can see the Acura resemblence). Ultimately, the xf is too generic; it looks like it could be the product of almost any auto maker, but doesn’t look much like what we would expect the real jaguar (had it not been so influenced by Ford)
