The Chevrolet Volt has been doing rounds of auto shows in concept form, and is set for release in 2010. As brash as the deadline is, the Volt will be a remarkable car, designed to run purely on electricity from on-board lithium-ion batteries for up to 40 miles, enough for a commute to work, while charging the batteries overnight every day. Also, with the use of a small gasoline engine driving a generator to resupply the batteries, the Volt’s range is potentially increased to 362 miles on the highway. GM has been promoting this car a lot, and it has become a byword for the future of cars. As America suffers from high oil prices and General Motors is under the threat of bankruptcy, the Volt is seen as a savior for both. It has finally been fully exposed on the sets of the upcoming Transformers 2 movie. (more…)

The 2009 Dodge Viper ACR is a lightweight track-ready version of the standard Dodge Viper. It is also street-legal, which makes it a fair enough competitor against the Nissan GT-R and the Corvette ZR-1 when it comes to track times at the famed Nurburgring. And the Viper ACR has beaten both of them with a time of 7 minutes 22 seconds. (more…)

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which looks almost like the prototype, is going to be revealed on July 21, and these are the first images. The new top-rung version of America’s favourite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, has managed to a pull off a time of 7:26 minutes at Germany’s famed Nurburgring racetrack, driven by a GM development engineer. The $100,000 ZR1 thereby beats the amazing 7:29 set by the stock $75,000 Nissan GT-R recently. However, the ZR-1 has a tough battle ahead, as the prototype lightweight Nissan GT-R V-Spec has already been casually timed doing 7:25, while the pricey Lexus LF-A prototype has already pulled off a 7:24. Honda is already testing an NSX prototype, with rumours that Honda bosses are pushing to defeat the GT-R. (more…)
