Carbon Motors E7 police car gets 10,000 orders

Carbon Motors, who came into fame as the first maker of purpose-built police cars, has announced that they now have more than 10,000 pre-orders for their upcoming E7 police car. Hundreds of law enforcement agencies that placed those reservations from across the United States for the diesel-powered custom-built car.

Each E7 will boast features like 360-degree built-in police-duty LED lights, suicide rear doors with hose-out rear passenger compartment and a separate front compartment with high-tech touches like radar, LoJack, an automatic license plate recognition system, radiation and biological threat detectors and Carbon’s exclusive On-board Rapid Command Architecture (ORCA), which features a large touchscreen display and keyboard.

The aluminum-intensive space-frame construction with composite body panels, keeps weight down while a 3.0L turbodiesel engine with 300 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque offers 0-60 mph acceleration in just 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel economy is pegged at 28-30 mpg.

Carbon’s executive team is still evaluating offers from various states to set up a manufacturing base, and the company is targeting a final decision to be announced sometime this summer.
