2009 Nissan GT-R to debut at Tokyo Show

Nissan is going to unveil its legendary sports car at the end of next month during the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show. Dropping the “Skyline” badge, it will be called the Nissan GT-R, and will be equipped with a twin-turbo 3.8L V6, pumping out an estimated 480 hp to 530 hp. Shown above is the disguised working prototype. The surprising part is it has unofficially been proven to be quicker around a track than a Porsche 911 Turbo, which costs twice as much as the GT-R.

The Nürburgring racetrack in Germany is used as testing grounds by many carmakers. The all-wheel-drive Porsche 911 Turbo officially laps the track in 7 minutes 40 seconds. The all-wheel-drive GT-R, during testing, has been unofficially timed at 7 minutes 38 seconds. Apparently Nissan now wants to try and match the Porsche Carrera GT’s time of 7 minutes 28 seconds.

The GT-R will be priced at US$ 68,000 in Japan. It might be a bit more expensive when it comes to the United States, but it’ll still be amazing value for an amazing piece of machinery.

  1. Hmmm what do I want to spend my money on? The new GT-R which is pretty far from the last GT-R series as in dollar vs performance or do I want to take the money that it would cost me to buy a new GT-R and get an Evo Lancer(again not the new one dear God punish the moron who designed that one)and with the difference in what I would have paid for the GT-R I could put it into the Evo and make it into a very evil AWD car. Oh yeah luxury GT-R don’t really go into the same sentence when talking about the GT-R tradition 32,33,34 series get my drift?

  2. Screw it someone just get me a GT-R34 Spec V Skyline and with around 1-2K in mods let me get next to the new GT-R at a light and we can see who made the wiser investment. Wow it’s cheaper than the Porsche 911 that’s great it’s still atleast 70K in a country that’s suffering from a recession wow genius’s who came up with this one. You know the GT-R is known by the younger crowd a great deal more than most of the old farts who are in the tax bracket to buy the new GT-R do you really think they are going to pay that much money for a Nissan? I know that here in (very sad to say)label/brand conscious Yankee land that not many old rich farts will want to pay that much money for a Nissan even though the name by which the new(overpriced cow)car is going under is legendary. I believe if it was branded an Infiniti here in label conscious Yankee land(as opposed to Japan which doesn’t need to make a luxury label b/c the Japanese people are a little brighter)land then older people would more than likely buy it.
