2009 Mercedes-Benz get more efficient engines

Two newly-developed engines with direct injection are now available for the European-spec BlueEfficiency version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. They are the most fuel-efficient engines ever for the C-Class, and developed using traditional technology rather than a hybrid system.
The new C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY saloon, the most efficient C-Class ever, generates 170 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2.1L engine. This offers 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.1 seconds, yet the combined fuel consumption is an impressive 49 mpg.
The newly developed 4-cylinder in the C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY also uses direct injection. It achieves 204 hp and offers 229 lb-ft of torque with a 2.2L turbo. The C-Class sedan requires 7.1 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint with the new gasoline engine. The combined consumption amounts to 33 mpg, according to European ratings.
It is likely that the C 250 CGI gasoline model will come to the United States eventually, if not the diesel version.
