2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S unveiled

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is on its last legs of production. The German manufacturer has now revealed the “722″ version in roadster form.

Called the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S, the roadster gains the same upgraded 650 hp 5.5L supercharged engine, lowered suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, front splitter and carbon-fibre ceramic brakes as the 722 coupe. The interior features a full suite of upscale items, such as Bose stereo, navigation, multiple airbags and more.

The soft top is made of carbon-fiber and, unlike the targa-topped Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, can withstand top speeds of 221 mph. The roof itself can open and close in 10 seconds semi-automatically, with some manual help. The roadster itself can also do 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds and 0-125 mph in 10.6 seconds.

Only 150 of these cars will be built, most likely due to limited demand rather than actual exclusivity. A large chunk of these cars can be expected to come to America, assuming the economy improves.
