Mitsubishi has officially launched the Lancer Evolution X for the Japanese market. The two trims announced are the standard GSR model and the stripper RS model.

The new 4B11 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine is lighter thanks to an aluminum block, and more powerful. Oddly enough, the American version will have 295 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, while the Japanese version has 276 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Transmissions for both the GSR and RS include a five-speed manual. Optional on only the GSR is the fancy new Twin Clutch SST 6-speed automated manual transmission that has no clutch pedal and provides smoother shifting.

All Lancer Evolution X GSR models are fitted with the S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system to regulate drive torque and braking force at each wheel. The ACD (Active Center Differential) uses an electronically-controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch to optimize front/rear wheel torque split and thereby produce the best balance between traction and steering response. The AYC (Active Yaw Control) uses a torque transfer mechanism in the rear differential to control rear wheel torque differential for different driving conditions.

The GSR comes standard with 245/40 tires on 18-inch Enkei 12-spoke high-rigidity cast alloy wheels. 18-inch BBS lightweight alloy wheels are also available as a factory-fitted option for GSR and add a luster finish.

The GSR also comes standard with Brembo ventilated disc brakes, Bilstein single-tube shock absorbers and Eibach coil springs.

Other features include dual front airbags, knee airbag for driver, optional side airbags, Recaro seats, cloth or optional leather trim, and standard adaptive front lighting system for the GSR. The RS loses the stereo, the rear wing and other items to reduce weight.

I don’t care this car is almost as ugly as the new Subaru’s please the designers of the new Evo please peform Sepeku b/c this design is a great dishonor to the lineage of the Evo. You guys suck I don’t care if it has more power it’s still ugly as sin.

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but my first impression from looking at the front end, was that it resembled too closely to the older Nissan Skylines (not the over-priced, pointless 2009). Also, the air ducts on the side look like they are stealing the idea from Hyundai Tiburons. But, this is just my opinion.
